Weingut Zimmermann is located in the charming wine-making village of Theiss , north of the Danube River , not far from the city of Krems. In 2007, Alois took over the estate from his parents Alois and Edeltraud . For Alois Jr., it was not a difficult choice to become a winemaker. The work in the vineyards, in the cellar and the process from fruit setting to wine has always intrigued him. Before he became the winemaker in 2007, he did internships in various parts of the world to see how wine is made there and to master other techniques and perspectives. The essence of his insights lies in: concentrate on what you are good at, which is why he can be found more in the vineyard than in the office.
The vineyards have a southern exposure , which allows the grapes to ripen for a long time due to the many hours of sunshine, the cold breeze from the Waldviertel provides a refreshing acid structure in the wines. Famous vineyard names are in the possession of the estate, such as Kremser Gebling, Kremser Sandgrube and Rosshimmel. Each with its unique characteristics such as soil and microclimate . Each vineyard gets its own treatment method and that is also the reason that the vineyards are vinified separately during vinification. Skin maceration is also used to give the wines more body and structure! The combination of the climate, local grape varieties and modern winemaking produces exciting wines that attract attention all over the world.
